This year, Form 4868, the Application for Automatic Extension of Time to File U.S. Individual Tax Return, is due on April 18th, 2023, for the 2022 tax year.
Note this is for individual taxes - for your personal tax return. If you file corporate taxes, your extension was due last month for most organizations and returns.
This tends to not be an issue for most firms (missing tax deadlines) . . . unless they've changed personnel or tax preparers lately, at which point little deadlines like this can fall by the wayside. Often deadlines like this are missed when a previous Controller or CFO or bookkeeper retires or is separated from the firm, and Marty's replacement wasn't aware that he or she was responsible for filing the extensions. This can especially be an issue when one's corporate accountant also prepares one's personal returns. Thus, this gentle reminder. Oh, and there's one little thing you MUST do whenever you file any form with any tax agency. Are you doing it?
